How can use a wireless flash trigger with MIOPS Smart+?

MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger requires a cable connection to trigger the control unit of wireless flash triggers. The main control unit needs to have a trigger port to connect the MIOPS Smart+. You can mount the wireless flash trigger on the hot shoe of your camera. MIOPS Smart+ does not need the hot shoe mount to work.

What kind of camera do I need for MIOPS Smart+?

MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger is compatible with the DSLR and mirrorless cameras of most major brands like Canon, Nikon,
Sony, FujiFilm, etc. The camera must have a shutter release port to be triggered by MIOPS.

I am trying to capture a high-speed picture but I can't. What am I doing wrong?

If you want to capture a high-speed picture, then you need to eliminate the shutter lag of your camera. In order to do that, you can use your camera in bulb mode. Open the shutter just before the high-speed event, like a breaking glass. Then trigger the flash with the sound mode of MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger. Set your flash to the lowest power, this will give you a very fast exposure. Close the shutter of your camera after the flash is fired. This way you can capture the high-speed event. You can do all that only in a dark room. If you try to capture the high-speed event with the camera, the exposure will be always late due to the shutter lag.

I want to capture a lightning. What should be my camera settings?

First off all, the camera and lens must be on manual focus. You can set the focus to infinity. An exposure value of a few seconds should be enough for night time lightning photography. You can set the aperture between f/4 and f/8. For day time lightning photography, you may choose a shorter exposure value. Please keep in mind that a lightning stays visible for about half a second, so you can consider using a ND filter.

Do I need a smartphone to use MIOPS Smart+?

MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger can be used without a smartphone, but with the dedicated app it will offer much more features. In the standalone mode the following modes are available: Lightning, Sound, Laser, HDR, Time Lapse and DIY (External Sensor). The cable release modes and scenario mode is available with the app only. The scenario mode enables you to combine different sensor to create your own unique trigger scenario.

What kind of battery life should I expect?

The battery life of MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger depends on your usage, but in general the battery will last for about 3-4 days with continuous use. You can charge the battery from any USB power source. Don’t leave the battery drained for a long time. This may shorten the battery life. You can purchase spare batteries from here if you need.

How can I trigger my flash with MIOPS Smart+?

MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger has a dedicated output for flashes and we provide a standard sync cable to connect to your flash. If your flash has a sync port, you can connect MIOPS Smart+ directly to this port. If your flash does not have a PC Sync port, then you can also use a hotshoe adapter. We sell hot shoe adapter that you can use to trigger your flash.

I want to place MIOPS Smart+ far away from my camera. How can I do that?

You can use an extension cable for that purpose. The extension camera must have 2.5mm stereo male and female jacks. You need to put the extension cable between the MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger and your original camera connection cable. So, no matter what your camera connection cable is, the extension cable must have 2.5 mm stereo male/female jacks. The extension cables up to several hundred feet would work without a problem. Please visit the following link for Extension Cable: https://www.miops.com/collections/accessories/products/extension-cable

Is MIOPS Smart+ waterproof?

MIOPS Smart+ Camera Trigger is not waterproof, so it is a good idea to cover it if it is raining. You can use a transparent plastic to cover the unit. The reception of the light sensor and microphone may reduce if covered. Test your setup afterwards.

Exceeded Expectations!!

Nothing but positives. Ordering the Smart+ online was easy and straightforward. Item arrived securely packaged and well ahead of schedule. Trigger nicely designed and well assembled. No problem connecting device to my iPhone or to camera / flash. Have yet to try the lightning feature but all the other modes work like a charm. Phone interface easy to navigate. Purchase price reasonable for everything the Smart+ is capable of doing. Very happy with my buying decision.

So Far Really Impressed

Beings I live in North Dakota and its cold and lots of snow, I haven't had a chance to use the Smart+ very extensively. I did do a few tests, though, and find it works very well. The mobile app is very intuitive. It fits nicely on my Nikon D850 (several Nikon camera owners had complained about it but it would seem you addressed the issue). I'm excited to use it when it gets warmer! Like an idiot, I did manage to begin ripping out the orange strip on the right side thinking I was opening the left side for the ports. I had a difficult time putting it back and ended up duct-taping it so now it looks pretty tacky. That's totally on me but in case there's another idiot out there, maybe there's a way that side can be designed somehow that won't cause confusion. No biggie though - it still works great!
